When Will It End? The Phantasmverse Part 5

It is with a heavy heart I inform you all that Phantasm V: Ravager will be the last Phantasm film we cover with Charles Hobby on When Will It End? The hits keep coming as my Horror Hangover cohost Cass Clarke was unable to make this one, as the Tall Man captured them and turned them into one of those creepy little Jawas running around and doing evil deeds. The good news is that we’ll back sometime soon to cover the first (and only) Phantasm book, Phictions sometime soon!

The highlight of the episode for me is when I panic because I didn’t know that we’d been recording. Luckily, I’m pretty much exactly the same person whether the red-light is on or off.

Horror Hangover: J-Horror & Haunted Tech, Walkscares, & Hairpeople – oh my!

Our friend Charles Hobby swung by on the latest episode of Horror Hangover to talk about haunted tech in J-horror! We featured Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Pulse (our second Kurosawa movie in a row for anyone keeping score at home). We had a blast!

You may recognize Charles’ as the host of When Will It End? where Cass and I have been covering the Phantasm-series. Through the magic of asynchronous posting/recording schedules, this is actual the first time Charles and I met. Can you tell? Do we sound closer as the Phantasm-verse stretches before us? I’m genuinely curious.

You may listen and wonder how I got the metal clanging sounds so close to those used in Tetsuo. The answer to your question is that I hit a metal water bottle with a big fucking wrench next to a microphone and Cass did some cool edits.

Stokercon 2024 Reflection

Over on my Patreon, I wrote up my trip to San Diego for Stokercon 2024, the Horror Writers’ Association’s annual conference. There’s a ton of photos, plus a round up of my favorite readings from the event. Check it out here (no paywall)!

The plan is to go again next year when the conference is in Stamford, Connecticut! I grew around there, so it’ll be nice to mix the convention with some family visits.

Lord of the Dead is by far my favorite of the series! Like I said on the show, Don Coscarelli has an incredible ability to make his films feel like anything can happen, and in Lord of the Dead, anything and everything does happen. It’s amazing!

This one also features me playing the theme and covering Reggie and Jody’s song from the first Phantasm.
